How to Run a Household

Ahh.....family. They are the jelly to your peanut butter, even if they are a little annoying. If you feel like they are out of control, here are some tips on running a household.

Steps

  1. Understand your place. It doesn't matter if you're a man or a woman, it is very hard to run a household. Especially when you have no idea of what you're doing. Stop, Take a deep breath, and initiate household running!
  2. Sit with your family. This is a good place to start, This is where you tell them what they need to work on. Let's say Sally(Little Sister) and Lilly(Big Sister) were arguing about the TV. Take the remote and establish a TV Time rule. Sally gets the TV for 1 hour, and Lilly gets it for 2. The better they act, the more time they get. How about, Josh (Brother) is mad that Lilly ate the last cookie. A Cookie rule could be, cookies go to good girls and boys. If they act up, put the cookie in the jar and keep them from the cookies until they are in a better mood.
  3. If you're worried about the house being cluttered, pick a day when nobody has plans. Get the kids to clean up their rooms, and give them a special place to clean as well (bathroom, kitchen, etc.). This will teach them responsibility. If you must, force them to live in their own clutter. Then when they realize how messy things get when you don't clean, they'll be more happy to clean up after their messes.
  4. Men: Don't be old fashioned! Women aren't going to cook and clean by themselves are they? However, if you can't cook for your life, leave it to her and do the cleaning along with the children.
  5. Women: Stop Slacking! If your man is cleaning and cooking all by himself, help him out. You don't have to cater to EVERY need, but do equal work. He does one share, you do the other.
  6. Keep a schedule. Know when was the last time you had take out, or washed the dog, cat or whatever. This will help you keep a clean and organized life, and if your children get into sports and music, make time to come to their rehearsals, practices, games, and showcases. Remember, living the suburban life.

Warnings

  • Keep up to date with everything.
  • Don't become obsessed with cleanliness. Just have a special time for it.
  • You are the leader, lead!
